We invite you to join us for a conversation with social innovators Dr. Donovan “Dino” Beckett and Daryn Dodson.
Thursday, June 29, 2017
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Babson San Francisco
135 Main Street
San Francisco, CA
Dr. Beckett and Daryn Dodson are social innovators collaborating with local residents and thought leaders from across the country to revitalize Williamson, West Virginia.
Williamson was once a thriving community and retail center known for being the “Heart of the Billion Dollar Coalfield” just outside of Charleston, WV on the Kentucky border. As the coal industry has declined, so has Williamson. Today, it is one of the poorest communities in the U.S., plagued by mass unemployment, obesity, diabetes, addiction and a declining population.
A Williamson native, Dr. Beckett founded the Williamson Health & Wellness Center in 2013. The Center is dedicated to building a culture of health and stimulating a thriving local economy centered around community wellness.
In 2016, Dr. Beckett invited the Impact Experience team, including Daryn Dodson, to convene social innovators from across the country with local community members to reimagine Williamson’s future. The outcomes of the Learning Journey focus on health improvement, economic development and entrepreneurship in the community.
At this event, we will discuss the journey to date, what Williamson has in store in the coming years, and how other similar communities can move forward one giant step at a time.
